King Build

Contracting and refurbishment for hotels, buildings, retail and new build.

The design is a drawing sheet: ruled cells, a reference in the corner, dimensions set in mono. It is not style for its own sake — it is the trade's own vocabulary, and it is what stops two brands in the same group ending up as the same company in a different colour.

The quote request runs in stages, with the type of work deciding the questions that follow, and the answer goes to the company by email with everything that was filled in.

The construction licence is published with the scope it covers written next to the number, not the number alone: a licence quoted without its class and subcategory leaves the reader assuming more than it authorises.

How it works, in three pieces

The question is the reason for the date, not the date
The funnel asks what happens on the day the work has to be finished: a deed signing, a reopening, a residents' meeting, an opening, a move. That is what separates a date someone would like from a date that will not move — and it is the date that will not move that runs the rest of the job.
It ends in a reading, not a price
A construction price comes out of the site visit, and the site does not invent one at the end of the questions. It returns the two things that can be said without seeing the job: where the date stands, with the slack between the deadline asked for and the weight of the work, and what the visit will measure — access, existing services, structure, phasing, planning context, permits — according to the answers given.
The licence never appears without its scope
The licence number always carries the qualification recorded against it — 4th category, 12th subcategory, climate control, class 1 — and the IMPIC portal where it can be checked. A bare number on a construction company's page reads as a general construction licence, and the two insurance policies follow the same rule, with sums and dates written in the convention of the page's language.

Four screens from the site

The date and what happens on it

The date and what happens on it

The first step asks for the deadline and what happens on the day the work has to be ready — here, a deed signing. The five stages are listed on the left.

The site: space and access

The site: space and access

The third step picks the type of space and the access, including an upper floor with no lift. On the left, the date and the work already chosen are written out.

Four dates, four kinds of client

Four dates, four kinds of client

The home page ties each kind of client to the date that will not move — deed, reopening, meeting, opening — and to what the job does about it.

Licence and insurance, with the scope

The licence appears with the category, subcategory and class recorded against it, beside the public liability and workplace accident policies.
